Visit: Antietam Battlefield

Very interesting and sobering tour of the battlefield.  We rented a car (Enterprise picked us up at the campground) and did the audio CD tour of the battlefield.  The National Park Service does such an amazing job of keeping the grounds and honoring those who were killed and injured.

Monument to Clara Barton, the red cross at the base is made from bricks from the home where she was born:

The monument to Connecticut soldiers:

One of the upside down cannons marking a fallen General:

Burnside Bridge, the far tree was standing during the battle...amazing to think about what it has seen:

MD - Hagerstown/Antietam Battlefield KOA

What a great little gem!  We were greeted at the office with fresh from the garden cucumbers!  Gorgeous gardening and landscaping here at this KOA.  I'll let the pictures speak for themselves:

And there are even a few goats and chickens here!

There's also a 50's theme diner on site.  We didn't eat there, but it looked good!

KY - Bowling Green KOA

Another nice KOA, this time we had a great little patio furnished with a dining set and a nice fire pit.  After some storms passed through Theo met his match at big chess then played at the playground and in the pool with a bunch of kids.  It was finally nice enough to sit outside for dinner too!  There was a nice big Kamp K9 here for the fur brothers, so they were happy campers as well.

Notable Sight: Tiki RV

This would be cooler if the paint job went all the way around, but still fun!

Visit: National Corvette Museum

Look at this happy child:
I think this was his favorite part of the museum!  Seatbelts on and everything, he was ready to drive out of there!

The factory tours are currently closed preparing the line for the 2014's, so the museum it was!

Cool pit crew game:

Fingers crossed that the raffle ticket Kevin bought comes up a winner...wouldn't that be a cool souvenir???  For now we'll take our sticker, I guess ;)

KY - Louisville South KOA

Nice KOA for a night or two!  Theo loved the bouncing pillow and the big playground.  The puppies got good use of the Kamp K9 little dog park, and Kevin and I got use of the small but decent trail system for our morning runs!

Visit: Indianapolis Motor Speedway

We were so thankful for our onboard generator here, it allowed us to turn the AC on for the puppies and tuck them in and take the track tour!

The Winnie's wishing she could hop onto that track and take a lap or two!

IL: Rock Island/Quad Cities KOA at Camelot Campground

What do you do with old concrete silos?  Paint them to look like a castle!  That's the "Camelot" part of this campground.  They have a sword in a stone too, but that's about it.  Another "fine for an overnight" KOA, but not somewhere we'd want to spend a lot of time.  The pool was nice and the staff was friendly, but this one definitely looked nicer online than it was in person.

The site next to our site had a nifty deck and ramp, and since the site was empty for our first couple of hours here I snapped a good pic:

One plus was the city dog park across the street, not too far if you hop the split rail fence at the end of one of the campground loops:
It was too hot for the boys to do too much playing, but plenty of good sniffing!

Visit: Winnebago Industries

We took the awesome tour at Winnebago Industries to see the birthplace of our Winnie!  No photos allowed during the tour, but it was really cool to see the operations.  We boarded a bus and visited the sewing and soft goods shop (where we were amazed at how the cushions get stuffed!), then to the chassis shop, then to "Big Bertha" to see the assembly line.  Pretty impressive and we were assured that we made a good choice in our Winnie!

IA - Pammel Park

Pammel Park is a city park in Forest City, IA.  (By the way, there is another Pammel Park in IA that has a campground)  This one is very close to the Winnebago factory and offers water and electric sites.  It is honor system, first-come first-served for only $15 a night, but we wouldn't have needed to get in as early as we did since it certainly wasn't filled.  This was a nice park along a small river with a golf course on the other side.  There's a disc golf course and a playground, unfortunately it was just too hot and buggy for us to play.  We did take a nice little walk over the bridge through the park on the other side of the river adjacent to the golf course and Theo did a little fishing in the river.

Both Kansas and Dad needed a little coaching across the bouncy suspension bridge!

We rode our bikes around the town on Sunday night, pretty quiet!  Not much going on in this small town, but it was a Sunday evening and it was hot out.

We rode our bikes over to Winnebago for the tour in the morning.  Super close, especially if you cut through the back side of the park!

MN - Bunker Hills Regional Park

For our visit to the Twin Cities to see family and friends we stayed at the campground at Bunker Hills Regional Park.  This is a county park and is huge and very nice.  Tons of paved trails for biking and running, Bunker Beach water park, a very nice veterans memorial (including a tank!), disc golf, regular golf course, picnic pavillions, riding stables and paths, and the campground where sites have water and electric hook ups. We took advantage of the trail system and the waterpark, and the close proximity to most places we were visiting!

Also to note, there is an Enterprise car rental very close as well, so it was very convenient for us to pick up a car for use for the week and drop it off on our way out of town.
