PA - Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

Our very first freebie parking lot overnight (aka boondocking)!

We were working on beating a weather system home, but we realized we had plenty of time to bed down for the night and then hit the road in the morning and still beat it based on the forecast.  Since very little is open in this area for camping in the winter, I found this casino with available overnight parking!  We were the only RV this time of year, but we nestled in with the trucks and had a surprisingly decent night's sleep!

Based on this positive experience, I think we'll do some boondocking when en route again in the future!

Visit: United States Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC)

Having driven by the USAHEC on 81 a few times, we always say we'd like to stop here.  We finally made it a point to at least swing through...and we just made it with only a half an hour until museum closing, with the outdoor path open until sundown.  So we hit the museum first - it was really well done and something we definitely want to plan more time for in the future!

The facility is visible from I-81, but to get there is a little round about through town.  Just FYI.

Then we hit the outside trail, dogs allowed!

SC - Perdro's South of the Border

You never sausage a place!  Everyone's a wiener at Pedro's.  Pedro's Weather Report: Chili Today, Hot Tamale. Pedro's Fireworks (does yours?)

Yes sir, we stayed at Camp Pedro!

We pulled in and I was confused on where to go for campground registration...their signage is a bit small ;)

Look, the Winnie is wearing a sombrero:

This is an old nostalgic place that reminded me of a drive-in theater, the styling is just 50's-60's and kind of a hoot.  Not a luxury place, but we'd stop again.  Super friendly in the office and easy access for sure.  They have quite a few pull through sites, but we were given a back in because of our size.  Easy enough and a little cheaper anyway.  Good Sam rate was $26 plus tax, no complaints!

One great find here is local ginger ale.  I mean REAL GINGER ginger ale by the name of Blenheim. We are big ginger fans and the "less hot" was still plenty zingy for us.  We would stop to pick this up even if we weren't staying the night!

A couple of pics as we were pulling out in the morning - neon lights still on!

FL - Del Boca Vista...the Annex

Well, not really, but Seinfeld fans will get the reference.  After Disney we went down to spend another week in Fort Myers.  We were able to rent a lot next door to my parents' house, so it was really convenient...especially for Theo to borrow their golf cart!

This is officially the least "rustic" campsite that we've ever been on!  Fancy pants!

Of course we were all over the pool and the shuffleboard court.  Theo decided he loves shuffleboard, though it turns out that Kevin is a ringer!

We hit the beach a couple of times to try out Theo's new snorkel gear and Go Pro - no luck seeing anything snorkeling, but we had fun anyway!

And we saw some dolphins on our second beach visit:

We also hit nearby Manatee Park but it was too warm for the manatees to be inland, bummer to not see them but it was a gorgeous day for a paddle!

FL - Disney's Fort Wilderness

We had a great Christmas at Fort Wilderness!

The whole place was decorated for Christmas, and lots and lots of sites were decorated as well, some of them were very elaborate!  We did our part with an inflatable Minnie and Mickey and some Bliss Lights.

We were on site #415 in a premium loop.  Great location for getting to the Settlement area (restaurants, boats, etc) and pretty easy access to the dog park as well, the boys loved that, lots of new friends to meet!

My parents met up with us and stayed in the 1600 loop, so not too far, especially on bikes.

Once again we loved having bikes at the Fort and didn't at all wish for a golf cart.  Theo enjoyed a bit of independence in going to the arcade or to Grandma and Grandpa's by himself on his bike.

Of course boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom is wonderful:

Here are some morning shots of and from the boat:

And of course, the running at the Fort is the best on WDW property, with a nice path between Fort Wilderness and the Wilderness Lodge.  We also clocked the distance of all of the campsite loops: 7 miles (this doesn't include the cabin loops)

Some pics around the Fort:

My cousin Cristina works at Disney World, so we got to spend time with her and her boyfriend Chris on their days off.  First we went resort hopping to look at the decorations and gingerbread:

Then we headed back to the Fort for dinner at my parents RV, then took a walk around a couple of the loops.  One site had cool hologram glasses to look through, along with dog cookies for the fur babies!

And here are some random some park pictures:
